The role of a Street Fundraiser is to explain Greenpeace campaigns to the public and inspire them to sign-up as financial supporters. We work in teams in shopping areas all over Aotearoa New Zealand.

Working with the Greenpeace fundraising team is your chance to really make a difference while having lots of fun working with great people.

Full time position:
Working a minimum 35 hours per week (7 hours a day), Monday to Friday or Tuesday to Saturday between 9.00am to 4.30pm with a half hour unpaid lunch break.

Location:
  • We have Street Fundraising teams in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Tauranga and Hamilton.
  • Our National Office is in Mt Eden, Auckland and we have a Political Advisor in Wellington.

This job is a very important role for Greenpeace NZ as we are a not-for-profit organisation. To maintain our independence Greenpeace does not accept any funding from governments or corporations so we rely entirely on donations from individuals to keep our campaigns running.

Skills and experience required:

We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds. Ideally candidates would have direct selling experience and a passion for the environment. Applicants would also be:
  • Outgoing, positive and enjoy listening and talking to a variety of people and have an ability to easily build rapport with a diverse range of people
  • Confident in sales interaction, have excellent communication skills and have the enthusiasm and motivation to promote our organisation
  • Able to reach fundraising targets and handle knock-backs or objections

Responsibilities include:
  • Developing an understanding of the environmental issues on which Greenpeace campaigns and presenting this information to the public in a clear and interesting way
  • Understanding and completing the bank forms necessary
  • Meeting the set fundraising targets (the number of new supporters to be recruited weekly)

Training and support:
New fundraisers are given an initial one and a half days training. We give information about Greenpeace and our work and provide key information for the job. On your first few days, you will be working with an experienced fundraiser to help you out with any problems you may come across while you’re still learning. We also have ongoing training and you will be kept up-to-date with current campaign information.

Future opportunities:
For high performing fundraisers we offer positions in our traveling teams that travel to the smaller towns around NZ.  We often promote fundraisers to Team Leader/Trainer positions. Occasionally fundraisers also move into roles within the Auckland office or other Greenpeace offices around the world.

Remuneration:
We pay trainee fundraisers $13.50 per hour until they reach specific targets. On reaching these targets pay is increased to $16.50/hr. On top of this hourly rate we operate a bonus scheme which could increase your hourly rate to a maximum of $23/hr. We also operate recognition and reward schemes.

Door-to-door fundraisers enjoy talking to the public about environmental issues.

The role of an Door Outreach Fundraiser is to explain Greenpeace campaigns to the public and inspire them to sign-up as financial supporters by giving an on-going donation via direct debit from their bank account or credit card. We work in teams in communities all over Aotearoa New Zealand.

It is a very rewarding job as you get the opportunity to talk directly to the NZ public about important environmental issues and give them the opportunity to make a positive difference.

Reports to: Team Leader/Door Outreach Coordinator

Full time: 35 hours per week (7 hours a day), Monday to Friday, 2.45pm to 8.45pm.
Part time: A minimum of two, 6 hour shifts a week.
